Title: Coordinated Control for Lane-free Traffic on Freeways
Abstract: This study explores coordinated control strategies integrating Internal Boundary Control (IBC), Ramp Metering (RM), and Variable Speed Limit Control (VSLC) for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) operating in lane-free traffic conditions on freeways. By implementing these strategies, the research aims to enhance traffic flow efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve overall safety on freeway systems. Additionally, in mixed-autonomy traffic scenarios, where both autonomous and human-driven vehicles coexist, the study focuses on the implementation of IBC by setting dedicated lanes for CAVs. Optimal control methods are used to address traffic congestion. A framework for the future management of freeway traffic is provided.
